Rural Horticultural Work Experience Programme (RHWEP) under Student READY Planning Process for RHWEP

- Placement in RSKs/Practical work in villages/ Placement in Villages (Orientation–Departments, Village attachment and Establishment of Plant Health clinic/ Information center/Crop Museum and Advisory Service at Raitha Samparka Kendra (RSK), Practical work in villages and Krishimela).
- The College of Horticulture, Hiriyur has organized RHWE programme during 2016- 2017 to 2019-2020 for 232 B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture students.
- Students were involved in data collection by using interview schedule and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) techniques and identified the important problems related to horticulture as well as general problems to plan the programmes for three months of village stay under RHWEP.
- Nineteen villages were selected from Chitradurga district. In each village, 11-13 students were placed as part of village attachment.
- Nineteen villages were covered under 05 Raitha Samparka Kendras over last four years.

Placement of students to Raitha Samparka Kendra’s (RSK’s) and Villages
- Identification of Villages for RHWEP
Co-ordinator and Associate Co-ordinator of RHWEP were involved in the selection of villages before commencement of the RHWE programme. The villages were selected based on crop diversification and farming activities. The selected villages consisted of at least 100 farm families. Arrangements were made with respect to lodging and boarding facilities to the students and teachers during the village stay.

Orientation Programme
During orientation, the students were informed about the objectives, implementation of the programme, discipline to be maintained in the villages, collection of information, data analysis, problem identification, purpose of placing in Horticulture Based Industries, Research Stations and KVKs and the performance analysis of students during RHWEP were discussed.
